Job Description
We're Hiring: Mechanical Transmission & Rotary Coupling Engineer
Full-Time | Core Team
LAT Aerospace | STOL Aircraft
At LAT Aerospace, we’re building a clean-sheet Short Take-off and Landing (STOL) aircraft to transform regional air mobility in India. We’re looking for a Mechanical Transmission & Rotary Coupling Engineer to design, analyse, and validate the mechanical power transmission system between the engine and generator – from precision couplings to lightweight gearboxes, optimized for aircraft environments.
What you’ll do
- Design shaft couplings, torque-transfer interfaces, and rotary joints for engine–generator mechanical integration.
- Develop gearbox concepts to match the different RPM and torque requirements of the engine and generator.
- Perform structural, fatigue, modal, and dynamic FEA for rotating machinery.
- Define tolerances, alignment strategy, bearing selection, lubrication paths, and balancing requirements.
- Support prototype fabrication, build test rigs, and perform hardware validation.
- Work with engine, generator, motor, and structural teams to ensure seamless system-level integration.
- Optimise all transmission components for aerospace constraints such as weight, vibration limits, and reliability.
- Maintain detailed drawings, technical documentation, DFM notes, and test reports.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical transmission, drivetrain systems, or rotating machinery design.
- Strong understanding of gear trains, torsional dynamics, vibration analysis, fatigue, and high-speed rotation.
- Proficiency in ANSYS for advanced structural, modal, fatigue, and thermal FEA.
- Familiarity with precision manufacturing, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, shaft machining, and DFM practices.
- Experience integrating couplings or gearboxes with engines, motors, or generators.
- Bonus: exposure to aerospace lightweighting, high-speed couplings, or UAV drivetrain systems.
Why LAT?
- Core team opportunity at a high-conviction deep-tech startup.
- Real aircraft, real flying hardware, real impact.
- Build the future of sustainable aviation in India.
