Job Description
About the opportunity
Join our Embedded Payments team as a DevOps Engineer to make a real impact every day. We say that because we know that every conversation we have, every pipeline we build and every system we automate is another opportunity for us to elevate everyday life experiences for our customers and the people and communities they serve.
Reporting into the DevOps Engineering Manager, you'll help us build and scale the infrastructure behind our cloud-native payment orchestration platform that processes significant transaction volume across multiple Xplor brands. You are passionate about building reliable, secure systems and the automation that keeps them running smoothly while maintaining engineering best practices. You think about infrastructure end-to-end, from CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code down to monitoring, alerting, and incident response. You're comfortable owning the platform that everything runs on and collaborating closely with backend, frontend, QA, and engineering teams to ship and operate high-quality software.
Our Tech Stack
- Cloud: AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, Cognito, KMS, VPC)
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform
- CI/CD: Bitbucket Pipelines
- Observability: SigNoz, Grafana, CloudWatch
- Performance & Load Testing: k6
- Security & Compliance: PCI DSS, AWS-native controls
- Application stack supported: Node.js services, React frontends
Responsibilities & Duties
- Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform, with attention to scalability, cost, and PCI-scoped network segmentation
- Own and evolve the observability stack — SigNoz for distributed tracing and metrics, Grafana for dashboards, structured logging — so engineers can answer "what's happening in production" without paging you
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Bitbucket Pipelines, including deployment guardrails, automated rollback strategies, and environment promotion workflows
- Design and run performance and load tests with k6 or other custom tools as needed, establish baseline benchmarks, and partner with engineering to address bottlenecks before they reach production
- Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response for infrastructure issues, and drive postmortems that produce durable fixes
- Define and track SLOs, error budgets, and operational KPIs for payment-critical services
- Improve deployment velocity and safety — faster pipelines, better preview environments, safer migration tooling
- Partner with security and compliance to maintain PCI DSS posture, support audits (Armanino/Vanta), and codify controls
- Manage cost and capacity across AWS — right-sizing, reserved capacity strategy, and identifying optimization opportunities
- Use AI-assisted tools effectively to accelerate infrastructure work without compromising review quality or security posture
